Getting Started Package
This package is designed to give freshmen and sophomore students the early guidance they need to best prepare for the college process that gears up in the summer after the junior year. This package may include some or all of the following:
-An overview of the college admissions process and what colleges specifically look for in applicants.
-A thorough, personalized review and assessment of the students’ academic and personal profile to help them in selecting the most appropriate high school courses.
-Guidance for students in how to best engage in extracurricular activities (in-school, out-of-school, and summer program) so they can explore interests and develop a competitive resume for the college admissions process.
-A plan for standardized tests such as when to take them, when to begin test prep, and whom to use for test prep.
-A discussion of strategies the student can use to establish successful relationships with teachers, mentors, and counselors.
-Assistance with planning initial college visits such as which colleges to visit and what to do and ask when there.
-An overview of the financial aid process to help parents understand how to estimate the true costs of college.
-An opportunity for parents and students to get personalized answers to their questions about the college admissions process throughout the student’s freshman and sophomore years.
Comprehensive Package (Junior/Senior)
This package is designed to help college-bound juniors and seniors and their families navigate the college application and admissions process. This package can begin as early as late spring of the sophomore year and may include some or all of the following:
-A thorough review and assessment of the student’s academic and personal profile to determine the best-fit colleges for that student.
-A personalized account with College Planner Pro (CPP), an online management system that keeps students organized and informed throughout the college exploration and application process.
-Guidance on standardized testing including which tests to take, when to take them, and whether test prep is recommended. -Advice on extracurricular involvement and summer enrichment that cultivates the student’s interests, skills, and leadership qualities increasing college preparedness and competitiveness in the admissions process.
-If needed, assistance in helping the student explore possible college majors and career interests.
-Creation of a comprehensive, personalized proposed college list—typically 18-25 colleges—that includes admissions chances, embedded links, and information specific to the student’s desired criteria and interests.
-Advice on visiting colleges including when to visit, what to do when visiting, and ideal questions to ask.
-Guidance on formulating a balanced list of colleges 8-10 colleges to apply to.
-Guidance on developing and writing the personal statement (college essay) and supplemental essays including brainstorming and detailed feedback using Google docs, Skype, and/or in-person meetings.
-Assistance with creating a resume/brag sheet that highlights the student’s key attributes and accomplishments.
-Advice for the college interview including offering students the opportunity to engage in mock interviews.
-Crucial resources to help families understand the true costs of the colleges their child is considering apply to and attending.
